You may wonder, what is a mint julep?

A mint julep was initially made as a mixed co*cktail, using bourbon, sugar, water, crushed ice, and fresh mint. It started out as a cuisine of the Southern states, specifically the Kentucky Derby.

But now, so many people enjoy a mint julep and have come up with their own twists on the traditional recipe.

Where To Get Peppermint Simple Syrup

If you head to the store you can buy peppermint syrup either in the coffee, co*cktail, or drink area. It just depends on your local store in terms of where you can find it.

You can buy a Starbucks one that is really delicious. If you don’t want to buy simple syrup, make it yourself.

Can These Juleps Be Made In Advance

I recommend making these as you plan to drink them. You will find if you make the peppermint juleps in advance the soda can go flat pretty fast and the ice will melt and water down the drink.

Now, if you want to serve a crowd, make a large batch at once, then pour and serve! If you have some leftover drinks, you can store them in the fridge for a few hours.

The ginger ale will go flat in a handful of hours, but you can still drink if you enjoy the flavor.

Alternative to Cranberry Ginger Ale

Sometimes you will find it hard to get a cranberry ginger ale at the store. If that is the case you could reach for a cranberry Sprite or even a classic ginger ale or even plain lemon line soda.

To with some fresh cranberries or even a few frozen cranberries for a pop of color and a little cranberry flavor!

Variations For Serving Mint Juleps

  • Blend up to make a frozen drink instead of iced and top with some crushed peppermint candy.
  • Add in a candy cane.
  • Consider adding some fresh cranberries or even a few maraschino cherries.
  • Add in some fresh mint leaves for a pop of green.
  • Etc

Adjusting Flavor Of Mocktail

So like any drink, you might want to adjust the flavors. For more mint add a bit more peppermint syrup. If you want a hint more of sweet reach for more ginger ale.

Play around with the measurements and create a drink that fits exactly what you are looking for.

Just like any drink, it is versatile and can be customized to fit your tastebud preferences. So let me know the ratio you prefer when serving up this easy mocktail.
