One classic Christmas cookie that we see in almost every cookie exchange is Peanut Butter Blossoms.

But, there is no reason that these cookies are just for Christmas! They’re delicious any time of year!

I love these little Hershey Kiss Cookies because I feel like I’m getting two treats in one – both the cookie itself and then the whole Hershey Kiss that’s sitting on top.

The dough I use for these Hershey’s peanut butter blossomsis the same that I use for my Peanut Butter and Jelly Thumbprint Cookies and also for the Peanut Butter Nutella Cookies.

Sometimes I will make the dough and split it up and make half with the Hershey Kisses (my favorite) and half with the jelly (my husband’s favorite).

Many people have asked me when to put the Kiss on the Hershey Kiss Christmas Cookies. A lot of people put them on right at the end when they have finished baking.

I like to put them on close to the end of baking and then put them back in the oven for a couple minutes. This way the bottom of the Kiss melts a bit and stays adhered to the cookie.

Another option besides using Hershey Kisses is to use milk chocolate stars. This is what my Grandma always used for her cookies.

Brach’s Chocolate Stars are the most common type, but you can also look for store brands, which may make your cookies less expensive than using Kisses.

How to Store Peanut Butter Blossoms:

These cookies should be stored at room temperature in an airtight container. They will remain fresh for up to 5 days. Be careful if stacking the cookies because you don’t want the Hershey Kisses to become dislodged from the cookies.

How to Stack Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies:

As I mentioned above, you need to be careful with storing these cookies so the Kisses don’t pop off. The best way to stack them is by starting with a layer of cookies place right next to each other edge to edge. For the second layer, look for the spaces where four cookies touch and place the 2nd level cookies in those “empty” spaces that don’t have a Kiss on them.

FAQs

Why are my peanut butter blossom cookies crumbly? ›

Why Are My Peanut Butter Blossoms Dry and Crumbly? If your cookies turn out too dry and fall apart, you either baked them too long, or added too much flour.

Why are the peanut butter cookies crumbling? ›

If you're wanting to use natural (no sugar added) peanut butter, the cookies will be less sweet and they will likely spread out more. Using natural peanut butter will change the structure and texture of the cookies. Why are my cookies dry and crumbly? This is most likely a classic case of using too much flour.

What to use instead of Hershey's Kisses? ›

Use peanut butter cups: Instead of Hershey's kisses, feel free to press Reese's mini peanut butter cups (or any brand of pb cups that you love best) into the centers of your cookies.

What happens if you don't flatten peanut butter cookies? ›

If you don't flatten the cookies first, then the fork does double duty – it performs both functions. One very subtle result of creating the pattern is that the little tips of dough bake up crisper than the rest of the cookie, giving you both a bit of additional texture and deeper taste where the dough is more baked.

Should I let peanut butter cookie dough rest? ›

We prefer natural peanut butter here, so you can dial in the sugar and salt amounts precisely, and smooth peanut butter over crunchy to better control the cookies' fat and moisture levels. Letting the cookie dough rest ensures the flour is fully hydrated, resulting in crisper edges and chewier middles.

Why do they put fork marks in peanut butter cookies? ›

The reason is that peanut butter cookie dough is dense, and unpressed, each cookie will not cook evenly. Using a fork to press the dough is a convenience of tool; bakers can also use a cookie shovel (spatula).

Why are my peanut butter cookies so oily? ›

You baked your cookies and they came out an oily greasy mess. Urgh, what an awful feeling! If you've had this happen to you, odds are you made one of two mistakes: either you didn't allow the ingredients to thoroughly mix during the creaming process or you didn't allow the dough to rest enough before baking.

Why do my peanut butter cookies not taste like peanut butter? ›

The most common mistake with peanut butter cookies is using the wrong type of peanut butter. The BEST peanut butter for today's cookies is a processed creamy peanut butter, preferably Jif or Skippy.

Should you refrigerate peanut butter cookie dough before baking? ›

Should you refrigerate peanut butter cookie dough before baking? Optional! This is a really soft dough, so it's easier to handle if you chill it a bit (plus it gives the flavors a chance to deepen). But if you put them in the oven right away, it will work just fine.

What happens if you add too much peanut butter to peanut butter cookies? ›

This may not sound like a lot, but it is enough that it can affect the quality of your cookies – adding too much peanut butter can make them dry, hard, and crumbly.

What if my peanut butter cookie dough is too dry? ›

Dry – “Dry” or “Crumbly” dough is a product of over-mixing or using too much of any ingredient during the mixing process. This can be reversed by adding one to two tablespoons of liquid (water, milk or softened butter) to your mix.

Why do Hershey's Kisses taste so good? ›

Why does HERSHEY'S chocolate taste so good? Hershey's has a delicious, unique taste because of the farm fresh milk that is used! HERSHEY'S Milk Chocolate is one of the only milk chocolate brands in the world that still uses fresh milk in its production, giving it a distinctive taste.

Can you melt Hershey Kisses for baking? ›

If you need to melt Hershey Kisses for a recipe or to drizzle over a dessert, it couldn't be easier! Simply pull off their foil wrappers, pop them in a heat-safe bowl, and use either your microwave or a double boiler to melt them down to a smooth consistency.

What are the little paper in Hershey Kisses called? ›

What do you call the paper flag or tag that sticks out from the top of the KISSES Chocolate foil wrapper? That parchment paper strip is called a “plume”. Originally the paper plumes were also referred to as identification tags, possibly because they looked like miniature brand flags.

How do you keep peanut butter cookies from falling apart? ›

Use more granulated sugar than brown sugar.

With all of the peanut butter in this cookie dough, however, too much brown sugar made the cookies so soft that they fell apart.

How to fix crumbly peanut butter cookies? ›

Add more liquid ingredients in small amounts. Milk, egg yolks or egg whites, vanilla extract or even a teaspoon of water can help moisten the dough to give you less crumbly cookies. A little bit of a liquid like milk can also help your cookies spread in the oven to give you a more crispy cookie.

Why are my peanut butter cookies powdery? ›

There are several reasons why the cookies may have become dry and crumbly but the two most likely are that either the cookies were baked for too long or too much flour was added to the dough. The cookie should be baked only until the edges are slightly golden and the top looks a little wrinkled.

Why are my peanut butter cookies sandy? ›

The marriage of brown and granulated sugars gives it a sandy texture and the peanut butter adds a wallop of flavour.
