Spadina Station streetcar tunnel insepction: Buses replace streetcars north of Queens Quay West, overnight, starting June 10 - Transit Toronto (2024)

From 11 p.m. Monday, June 10 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 11 and continuing overnight nightly, TTC crews are replacing streetcars with shuttle buses north of Queens Quay West along these routes:

  • 310 Spadina overnight; and
  • 510 Spadina.

Spadina Station streetcar tunnel insepction: Buses replace streetcars north of Queens Quay West, overnight, starting June 10 - Transit Toronto (1)

In a report to the Toronto Transit Commission (the TTC Board), TTC staff identified inspection and maintenance of the streetcar tunnel at Spadina Station as a reason for this detour.

Nearby residents can expect noise from TTC overhead vehicles when they’re backing up the ramp that leads to the Spadina Station streetcar tunnel.

Spadina streetcar-tunnel inspection and the resulting TTC service changes continue until June 13 (4 a.m.).

More TTC construction activities may also be occurring on Spadina Avenue, affecting other TTC services.

For example, the TTC has also announced two other overnight detours due to “streetcar infrastructure upgrades” along these routes:

  • 301 Queen overnight; and
  • 503 Kingston Rd.

The TTC has already been operating shuttle buses since Sunday, March 31 to partially replace route 301 service due to other construction in the area. The buses are also detouring during construction on Queen Street West at York Street.*

^ Note that the map doesn’t display the detour path for route 301 buses during construction on Queen Street West at York Street.

Although the TTC says that, “During overnight construction… streetcars will not be able to cross University Avenue”, whatever that construction project is, it isn’t affecting service along the 304 King overnight and and 504 King routes. (Streetcars along routes 304 and 504 share the same King Street West path at University as cars along routes 301 and 503.) Our theory: the streetcar infrastructure work is taking place on Spadina Avenue north of King West, where route 301 and 503 cars also operate.

Also, the TTC has announced further overnight detours along these routes, due to “streetcar infrastructure work”:

  • 306 Carlton overnight; and
  • 506 Carlton.

Shuttle buses replace the cars between Ossington Avenue and Parliament Street.

The transit agency hasn’t identified the location of the streetcar-infrastructure project, but it’s likely at Spadina Avenue and College Street!
