Born October 24, 1923, in Green- wood, SC, to the late Young Barris Baker and Florrie Creech Baker, Doris was the widow of Harold Brewer. She grew up in the West Columbia area where she graduat- ed from Brookland-Cayce High School and Draughon Business College. She married Harold, the love of her life, July 19, 1947, and they made their home in Cayce, SC, until his passing July 9, 2004. For the past two years Doris lived at the Carolinian Retirement Home in Florence, SC.

In addition to her par- ents and husband, her brother, Ralph Baker, and her sister, Sara Baker McCracken, preceded her in death. Tabor Lutheran, and Hol- land Avenue Baptist churches. She used her many talents as a choir member, Sunday School and Vaca- tion Bible School teacher, and church hostess. Her desire to serve was evident through her ministry to others as she volunteered at Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels, Prison Ministry, and Washington Street Methodist soup kitchen. She also served in various offices of the Cay- ce-West Columbia Club, Missionary Union, and the Metallic Club. Doris chose to work part-time so she would be home with her daugh- ters.

She was employed at Marion Park Insurance Agency, Sporting Goods, and her most ful- filling position was daycare direc- tor at First Baptist Church of West Columbia. Crawford FLORENCE Leurea Clarence Crawford, 83 of Florence, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011 at a local health care facility after an illness. Mr. Crawford was born in Flor- ence County, a son of the late Landy C. and Mattie McGee Crawford.

He was a US Air Force Veteran having served during WWII. He was a for- mer salesman for Swift Co. for 38 years and was formerly associated with Darlington Packing Co. He was a member of Hampton Lodge Omar Shrine, and Pee Dee Shrine Club. Along with his wife he was a member of the Hampton La- dies Club and the Eastern Star.

Mr. Crawford was a member of Glen- dale Baptist Church now Eastside Christian Church. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane Doris Smith; and a brother, Willie Craw- ford. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Helen Benton Crawford of the Home; a daughter, Brenda Gail Newsome of Effingham; a sister, Lena C. Mrs. Elliott, widow of Edward Charles Elliott, passed away on June 24, 2011. Born in Green- ville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Faulkner and Maude Fowler Keller. Mrs. Elliott was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority, and was a re- tired elementary school secretary and teacher.

Garner Sr. Mount Pleasant formerly of Columbia and Union, SC Bill Gar- ner, age 96, passed away June 24, 2011. He was born on February 11, 1915 in McDonough, Georgia and was the son of Kenny Garner and Vera Stroud Garner. He was the widower of LaVonne P. Garner, who he married in 1943.

Bill attended Georgia Tech and earned his BS de- gree in textile engineering. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1943- 1946 and was in London on VE Day. After the war he stayed in England for a short time and took classes at the University of Nottingham. While there Bill was pleased to at- tend an event hosted by the univer- sity honoring General Dwight D.

Eisenhower. father was the founder of the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Georgia. Consequently Bill was an active member of the Baptist church wherever he has lived. He served on the Board of Deacons, was a fundraising chairman, and a Sunday school teacher. The Baptist churches that Bill attended the lon- gest are Mon-Aetna in Union, SC, The First Baptist Church in Union, and the First Baptist Church in Co- lumbia.

He has been a member of the First Baptist church in Colum- bia for 40 years. Bill joined the Lions Club on June 1, 1950, being a member for 61 years. He served several clubs in various positions including presi- dent. The International Lions Foun- dation presented Bill with the Mel- vin Jones Fellow Award for cation and humanitarian Bill is survived by two sons; Wil- liam S. (Bud) Garner, Jr.

and Mi- chael C. Garner. Bud and his wife Annette live in Mt. Pleasant. Mike and his wife Joan live in Lake For- est, Illinois.

Bill is survived by his three grandchildren Katie, Callie and Michael. Friends may call at the resi- dence and at the funeral home. Trevor H. Howard-Hill COLUMBIA Trevor H. Howard- Hill, partner of Joy Gamby of New Zealand, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Born in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, he was a son of the late Rowland Hill and Dulcie Hele- na Hill.

He received his PhD from Victo- ria University in 1960 and his DPhil from Oxford in 1971. A professor at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Howard-Hill is perhaps best known to researchers and librari- ans for his mammoth Index to Brit- ish Literary Bibliography (11 vols, 1969-2009) and to Shakespeare scholars for his pioneering work in literary computing in the 1960s, which resulted in the Oxford Shakespeare Concordances (37 vols, 1969-1973). Since 1994, he had edited the senior U.S. based bibliographic journal, the quarterly Papers of the Bibliographical Soci- ety of America, founded in 1904.

When he retired from the En- glish Department in 1999 the jour- nal office moved to Thomas Cooper Library, the address of record for the past 12 years. In his department he served as chair in 1990-91, and within the wider uni- versity, he served as chair of the Graduate Council. His research was recognized by U.S.C. with the Education Foundation Research Award and nationally with N.E.H. and Guggenheim Fellowships.

Trevor loved his garden, spent much time playing pool, was a keen walker and enjoyed travelling, reading and music. Surviving are his children, Miran- da Collins and son-in-law, Nigel, of St. Leonards, England, Victoria No- vak and son-in-law, Michael, of Charleston, and Christopher How- ard-Hill, also of Charleston. He was grandfather to Lily, Elizabeth Stevie and Arthur of St. Leonards, England, and Geneva of Charleston.

In addi- tion to his parents, he was prede- ceased by a brother, Beresford, all of New Zealand. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011, at the Rutledge Chapel of U.S.C. followed by a reception at McCutchen House on The Horse- shoe. Jimmy Watson Jackson VARNVILLE Mr. Jimmy Watson Jackson of Pine St. in Varnville, SC died early Friday afternoon June 24th at Roper Hospital in Charles- ton, SC after a brief illness. Born October 9th, 1952 in Swe- den, SC (Bamberg County) he was the son of the late Evan Watson Jackson and Margie Varn Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was a retired Plant Manager for Corbett Plywood Co. in Fairfax, SC and a member of St. Nichols Lutheran Church. He had also received his Black Belt in Karate.

Surviving besides his wife of the home Jenny Loadholt Jackson is: one son Jimmy Watson Jackson, Jr. of Varnville, SC, one brother Billy Jackson of Sweden, SC, and one sister Linda J. He was employed with the Darlington County School System for over 30 years, and was the owner of Grocery in Hartsville.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed travel- ing, reading, and working at La- Corner Grocery. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude for the thoughtful and kind care given to him at all the different hospitals and nursing homes he has been in.
